I’ve talked about what I want, and what hasn’t worked, so now we move on to what I’m trying to make. Given my set of requirements, I decided that a web- based tool would be the path of least resistance. It also has the benefit of being a set of technologies that I’m somewhat familiar with, but also want to gain some more experience in.
I guess I should back up a second.
As I mentioned in the previous post, there are a number of different systems I’ve tried to use for my writing, and each has had its ups and downs.
First, I think I’ll start with the elephant in the room: word processors. Don’t get me wrong, I think that LibreOffice has gotten pretty good and it has its uses, but for writing I think word processors are in the “fundamentally and irreparably counterproductive” category.
I write fiction as a hobby, both original and fan, and I’ve been struck by a distinct lack of good tooling around the process. Specifically, the lack of tooling around the process that I want. So this post is going to be about that problem in general, and in the next few posts I’ll go over what I’ve tried and what I’m now trying to create.
First off, I have no interest in “publishing” features.
